Tigers 2025 MLB Schedule: Detroit on road for Opening Day against recently bested foe
Out of the blue on Thursday afternoon, MLB released all 30 teams' 2025 schedules. With it came the announcement of two new marquee events: the Dodgers and Cubs will head to Tokyo to open the season overseas, and Rivalry Weekend in May will see (mostly) interleague and divisional matchups play out. Stateside Opening Day will take place on March 27, and the season will conclude on Sept. 28.
Like this year, the Tigers will start their season away from home (again) and head all the way to the west coast for three games against the team they trounced right before the All-Star break: the Dodgers.
Then, they'll take a trip up the coast for three more games in Seattle before their home opener at Comerica Park against a familiar foe in the White Sox.
2025 Detroit Tigers Schedule: Tigers to start next season on the west coast
Interleague two-game series are completely gone from next year's schedule, extended to three instead (the way it should be). The Tigers have three four-game series mixed pretty evenly throughout the season: two in May against the Angels and Guardians; one in June against the White Sox; one in July against the Blue Jays; and the last in August against the Twins. They also have three gauntlet stretches of 13 consecutive games to contend with, the first two taking place in April and May.
As part of Rivalry Weekend, the Tigers will take on the Blue Jays in a somewhat predictable Michigan vs. Canada competition. Detroit has traditionally not fared very well against Toronto, with a 216-246 all-time record, but it could still be fun to see what kind of promotional tricks MLB pulls out to mark the festivities.
The Tigers won't have it easy at the beginning of their season, but we can hope that recent history repeats itself in LA, and that we won't have to watch Tarik Skubal pitch against the Tigers as a member of the Dodgers.
