The 2024 international signing period is still in its early stages. The Detroit Tigers are still signing some international youngsters. You can follow along with all their signings on the Detroit Tigers PR page on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The signing period goes all the way through Dec. 15, though most of the heavy lifting is being done right now. Most of the work on the 2025 class has yet to begin, but that hasn't stopped some surprising news from coming to light.
According to a report from Joe Doyle of Future Star Series, the Tigers are at least one of the favorites to sign OF Cris Rodriguez, who is slated to be one of the top prospects in the 2025 international signing class.
Finding additional information about Rodriguez proved to be difficult, so apologies for the lack of additional analysis here. As it turns out, it's hard to find information about Latin American teenagers.
The fact that the Tigers are even rumored to be in this kid is an incredibly promising sign for the future. For far too long, the Tigers have sat on the sidelines during the international free agent period. Al Avila attempted to change that with signings like Roberto Campos and Cristian Santana, but both prospects have had their fair share of struggles so far.
It's very hard to project teenagers, but Doyle is one of the best in the business. If he's this high on him, Tigers fans can feel pretty good about this kid, should they be able to sign him.
We won't know until this time next year whether the Tigers will be able to ink Rodriguez to a deal. There's still about a year until the 2025 international signing period begins. Hopefully between now and then, we can find some more information about this young man.
