Scott Boras might've angered Tigers enough to take action in free agency

Since the 1980s, super agent Scott Boras has been responsible for getting some of the biggest contracts in baseball history across the line. He's an infamously tough negotiator who some teams intentionally avoid dealing with, but he also represents some of the biggest stars in the game: Bryce Harper, Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, Elly De La Cruz, and (perhaps unfortunately for the Tigers) Tarik Skubal.

Boras will be the Tigers' biggest road block in any effort to extend Tarik Skubal. There have been exceptions to the rule, but Boras usually prefers his clients to test their markets in free agency. The Tigers have some time to negotiate — Skubal isn't a free agent until the end of 2026 — but there's a possibility that no offer the Tigers are willing to give will be enough for Boras.

He's intransigent, and also ... a really bad pun-maker? At the GM Meetings this past week, he's been running wild with puns (re: Pete Alonso, he said, "We hear a lot about the bear market for power-hitting first basemen. For Pete's sake, it's the polar opposite"). Okay, dude.

He didn't drop one for Skubal, but that might've been preferable to the taunt he aimed at the Tigers front office: "I think the Tigers have reached a level where it's certainly time for them to put their toe in the water about a high-level of competitiveness."

Scott Boras' shot at Tigers should motivate them to spend this offseason

Sounds like a spending challenge!

The Tigers do have some necessary additions to make next season. The rotation needs at least two more starters, and the lineup needs a proven, reliable power bat to give the team some more pop.

Boras is sure to give the Tigers a headache as long as he represents any of their players. A successful Skubal extension will require a lot of patience and a lot of money if they really want to make him a lifelong Tiger. Boras also represents Jackson Jobe, Spencer Torkelson, Jace Jung, and Kenta Maeda. We just hope that he'll steer clear of some of those terrible puns from now on.

Maybe if the Tigers sign one of his big-name free agents this offseason, we can make it all go away.
