Tigers fans can only laugh at Youtuber’s trade prediction for hated Yankees player

The Tigers have three former Yankees on their roster this season — Gleyber Torres, Tommy Kahnle, and Jahmai Jones — and at least Torres and Jones have worked out better than anyone expected them to. Torres, who's done exactly what he needed to do on a one-year prove-it deal, has said he's open to returning to the Tigers next season. Jones could be an option as an inexpensive depth piece as well.

Maybe the success the Tigers have had with these two former Yankees is giving people the wrong idea, though.

Youtuber Jim Riley of BALLCAP Sports went over five players who will leave their current teams after 2025, and named Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe as one of them. Riley listed five potential trade destinations for him in the offseason: the Padres, Pirates, Giants, Guardians ... and the Tigers.

In the unlikely event you haven't seen any of the many memes about Volpe, both within the Yankees' fandom and outside of it, it's important to know that Yankees fans absolutely cannot stand him — and that the team is, for some reason, completely unwilling to give up on him, which only makes the fan vitriol even worse.

Youtuber Jim Riley proposes Tigers as a trade destination for hated Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe

Yankees' fans criticisms of Volpe aren't unfounded, even for New York fans' ridiculously high standards. He was hyped up as the second coming of Derek Jeter basically ever since he was drafted, but this year he's a .208 hitter with a .667 OPS and is the fourth-worst qualified defensive shortstop in baseball this season.

The idea that Volpe might move during the offseason is a flawed premise right from the start, given manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman's unfailing support of their shortstop. But even if we say that in a hypothetical scenario they could be open to trading him, why on earth would the Tigers ever want him?

Trey Sweeney hasn't looked like an ideal shortstop of the future for Detroit, and Javy Báez seems far more likely to be used in a utility role going forward given what the Tigers uncovered in him this year. But for the Tigers to give up the prospect capital they so desperately cling to for one of the worst players in the game? Especially when their No. 2 prospect in all of baseball is a shortstop on the verge of a debut? It's never going to happen.

We'd put a lot of money on Volpe staying exactly where he is until he becomes a free agent, but even if the Yankees were to open up trade talks at some point, the Tigers definitely won't be involved.
