Detroit Tigers fans who plan on watching the NFL Thanksgiving game between the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears on FOX might want to consider listening to the national radio broadcast of the game instead.
Jason Benetti, the beloved Tigers TV play-by-play announcer who joined Bally Sports Detroit (now FanDuel Sports Detroit) last season who quickly endeared himself to the city with his memorable calls of the Tigers' magical 2024 campaign, announced Wednesday that he will be calling the Lions vs. Bears game live on national radio via Westwood One Sports.
The Tigers really swung for the fences when they hired Benetti, one of the most respected voices in sports broadcasting. He is primarily contracted for FOX Sports for national TV broadcasts of college football and basketball games, as well as some nationally televised MLB games. He has also done television play-by-play for NFL games on FOX.
Jason Benetti to continue calling Tigers games under new TV deal in 2025
After a multiyear bankruptcy saga, Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of the newly-minted FanDuel Sports Network, has committed to a restructuring plan to escape Chapter 11 status (of which the Bally-to-FanDuel rebrand is a key component). As a result, the Tigers reached a revised agreement with Diamond to keep their local TV broadcasts on the network next season.
This is good news for Detroit fans who enjoy Benetti's sensational calls. His contract being directly with the Tigers meant that he would be part of the team's TV broadcasts next season regardless; but now we have answers as to where those broadcasts will live.
Benetti teamed up with multiple different partners in the Tigers' broadcast booth for Bally Sports Detroit last season, including Craig Monroe (who didn't work afterJune 9 due to an off-the-field investigation), Andy Dirks, Dan Petry, Kirk Gibson and others. This will likely continue to be the case in 2025 on the newly-rebranded FanDuel Sports Network Detroit.
In the meantime though, Detroit fans will be treated to a bonus Benetti appearance in November as he calls the game for their hometown NFL team. With the Lions heavily favored to win, it should be a happy Thanksgiving.
