What will the Detroit Tigers do this offseason? That's the question on everyone's mind, right? The Tigers surged into the playoffs, dispatched of the American League's most consistent postseason performer, and almost made a miraculous run to the ALCS. Now, Detroit heads into the 2024-25 offseason looking to build on its success.

Some reinforcements may be necessary in order for the Tigers to repeat their 2024. Though Detroit made great strides this past season, resting on their laurels and expecting to run it back with the same group that was completely out of the playoff picture and left for dead by mid-August would be unwise. That race to the finish line was unprecedented and unlikely to happen again.

While a number of positions could be considered "set in stone" heading into next season, outside of Riley Green and Kerry Carpenter, one could say that there are opportunities for the Tigers to find upgrades across the board, or at the very least, add some necessary depth.

Tigers insider lists 2025 free agent targets for Detroit at every position

Ryan Ford of the Detroit Free Press sees it that way as well. If the Tigers hope to make a deeper run into the postseason next October, they need to make some additions this offseason. Thankfully, with only about $75 million committed to next year's payroll, the Tigers have the means to pounce on some free agents this offseason.

Ford laid out the case for Detroit to target a number of players this winter, and put together a list of one top-tier and one fringe-player at every position the Tigers should target. Some of the names are rather interesting.

That's a lot of names, and many are unlikely to be aggressively pursued by the Tigers' front office. That said, if the numbers are close, Detroit's surprise run to the playoffs coupled with AJ Hinch as the team's manager could help sway some big names to join the Gritty Tigs. Tigers fans saw the Royals lure a number of mid-level free agents to KC last season, including AL Cy Young contender Seth Lugo.

Detroit has to decide if they're ready to cash in their chips. Does the front office do some wheeling and dealing this offseason while also adding a couple of veterans and look to make a strong push for the AL Central title in 2025? Or will the Tigers attempt to follow their same strategy of drafting and developing talent?

Most Tigers fans believe the time is now, and are hopeful to see some key free agents join Detroit this winter. Any of those players mentioned would be a fine addition to the roster, but if Scott Harris is able to convince a player like Alex Bregman or Anthony Santander to join the Tigers this offseason, the Detroit faithful would be ecstatic.
