For Detroit Tigers third baseman Jace Jung and his family, this Mother's Day weekend was extra special.

Jung got to play against his brother, and fellow third baseman Josh Jung, for the first time in the big leagues this weekend when the Tigers hosted the Texas Rangers for a three-game series at Comerica Park. Their parents, Jeff and Mary, were in the stands for all three.

With Sunday being Mother's Day, the Jung brothers presented their mom – who was wearing a custom split jersey featuring both of her sons' teams and numbers – with a personalized pink baseball bat prior to the game. The Tigers also asked Mary to deliver the game ball to the pitcher’s mound, where she got to pose with both of her sons for a round of photos to commemorate the day.

Tigers News: Tarik Skubal makes history, Matt Vierling nears return from injury

Reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal pitched seven innings of one-run ball against the Rangers in Friday's series opener, recording 12 strikeouts and generating an unreal 32 whiffs.

Through eight starts this season, Skubal now has a 4-2 record and a sparkling 2.08 ERA, looking like every bit of the AL pitching Triple Crown winner he was last year. Over his last six starts, he has struck out 50 batters, given up just one walk and lowered his ERA to 0.97 during that span.

In doing so, Skubal became the first MLB pitcher to record 50 strikeouts, no more than one walk, and a sub-1.00 ERA over a six-start span since ERA first became an official stat in 1913. Moral of the story: if there is history to be made on a Major League pitcher's mound, Skubal is probably going to do it.

The Tigers got some more positive news over the weekend as injured outfielder Matt Vierling saw his first action in the outfield on Sunday during his injury assignment with Triple-A Toledo. Vierling, who has been sidelined since spring training with a right rotator cuff strain, had previously been limited to a DH role during his rehab stint.

Per Evan Woodberry of MLive, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that Vierling's next recovery milestones will be back-to-back outfield days followed by some time at third base. Woodberry speculated that if all goes well, Vierling could plausibly return to the Tigers on or around Toledo's next off day on May 19.
