Tigers News: Max Anderson on taxi, Comerica name change, Banana Ball in Detroit

On Sunday, Emily Waldon of Baseball America reported that Max Anderson and Corey Julks were among players on taxi, and would stay with the team following their finale against the White Sox. No. 14 prospect Thayron Liranzo was also under consideration.

This isn't necessarily anything for Tigers fans to get too worked up about yet, but it is the closest we've seen Anderson get to the major league club this season. Could the Tigers be considering yet another MLB debut for one of their top prospects?

There's little to lose at this point. Their loss to the White Sox on Sunday night marked their elimination from postseason contention, rendering their last six games basically meaningless. That doesn't mean the Tigers can't have a little fun, though. They're probably letting Justin Verlander pitch against the Pirates on Saturday; why not add a debut on top?

The only thing that could be keeping the club from actually making the move is that Anderson isn't currently on the 40-man roster. But assuming that they want to save him from the Rule 5 draft this offseason (which they should), it might even behoove them to get the roster move out of the way early.

The question would become who would be sent down (or is quietly harboring an injury) in order to make room for Anderson. If Julks, an outfielder, is also on taxi, the Tigers could just be looking to give a guy a little extra runway when the season's over.

If Tigers fans had it our way, that guy would definitely be Anderson.

Fifth Third Bank, Tigers unveil Comerica Park name change

Last year, Comerica (the company) was bought by Fifth Third Bank for $12.3 billion, and their new owners hinted early on that a new name for Comerica Park may be in the cards.

Per Jason Beck of MLB.com, that name change is expected to be unveiled on Monday in a press conference at the stadium. Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic confirmed the new name will be Fifth Third Park. It will go into effect starting in the 2027 season.

The Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens currently play at Fifth Third Field, but the now-named LMCU Ballpark, home of the High-A West Michigan Whitecaps, carried the Fifth Third name for 20 years. It's made its way all the way up to the majors, though fans will certainly take a while to get used to the change.

Brandon Inge, other Tigers alum debut with the Savannah Bananas

While the Tigers were away in Chicago, two affiliates of the Savannah Bananas, the Party Animals and Firefighters, took over Comerica Park for a night, and the show included a few familiar faces. Tigers All-Stars Brandon Inge and Shane Greene took the field for the Party Animals.

Greene pitched a scoreless inning, complete with a trick play to finish things off, and Inge appeared as the much-hyped Golden Batter (but was thrown at first on a soft grounder).
