Tigers Prospect Update: Top players headed to AFL, Mud Hens dominance, Cameron Flukey

Two Tigers top prospects are headed to the Arizona Fall League, a yearly prospect showcase usually reserved for the game's best. Kevin McGonigle and Max Anderson both represented the Tigers very well in 2025 (McGonigle was crowned AFL MVP), and Zyhir Hope and Bryce Rainer will try to carry on that legacy in 2026.

Hope has settled in well at Double-A Erie despite a quiet start that had some fans overreacting way too early. He's hitting .333 with a 1.015 OPS, three homers, 11 RBI, and three stolen bases in September.

Rainer returned to High-A West Michigan in late April after shoulder surgery cut his debut season short. He hit .271 with a .863 OPS, 18 homers, and 67 RBI in 95 games. With Max Clark's graduation, Hope and Rainer have moved into the Nos. 1 and 2 spots in Detroit's pipeline are are baseball's Nos. 27 and 47 prospects.

Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens put on an offensive showcase

The Double-A SeaWolves are the only Tigers affiliate to move on to their minor league playoffs, but the Triple-A Mud Hens are still having fun into Toledo. On Saturday, they put on a gritty display against the Iowa Cubs, coming back from a 7-1 deficit by the end of the fourth.

Tigers fans will recognize many of the names that got in on the action. A Max Anderson homer started the scoring for Toledo, a James Outman homer scored Jace Jung and Anderson, and a Trei Cruz double tied the game. Farmhand outfielder Cal Stevenson put the final point on the evening with a go-ahead two-run homer.

The Mud Hens have a six-game stretch against the Louisville Bats ahead of them, which will wrap up their 2026 season. They're currently 69-73, seventh in the International League West.

Cameron Flukey rises up Tigers' pipeline rankings

The Tigers' first pick of 2026 has quickly made a name for himself within the organization. Upon Clark's graduation from prospect status, Cameron Flukey is Detroit's new No. 5, behind Hope, Rainer, River Ryan, and Josue Briceño.

The Single-A Lakeland Flying Tigers' season ended a few weeks ago, but Flukey's first four professional outings were literally spotless. He declined to give up an earned run through 10 1/3 innings and only gave up four hits. Walks might be a bit of problem for him (he gave up seven), but the strikeout stuff is clearly there (14). It wouldn't be surprising if we see him promoted to High-A early next season.
