The Detroit Tigers are on a heater to end all heaters to start the 2025 season and are quickly being considered to be one of the leading playoff contenders in the AL. To keep that status, they are going to have to handle their business against what is a truly dreadful White Sox team. Unfortunately, Mother Nature seems to want to make Tigers fans wait.

Detroit was supposed send Sawyer Gipson-Long to the mound for his first start of the year against Jared Shuster who is getting the start for Chicago, although White Sox fans probably wish he wasn't. Instead of getting started at 6:40 PM CST, we are going to have to wait as we are officially in a rain delay.

**Update: 7:44 PM CST**

Well, the rain delay definitely went over the initial estimate of 45-60 minutes, but not by a crazy amount. Barring a change in the weather forecast (which is possible), this game will start at 8:15 PM CST. Adjust your sleep schedules accordingly.

Tigers vs. White Sox Rain Delay - 6/4: When will the game actually start?

So the bad news is that there is a good amount of rain in the area and that is going to make the field pretty treacherous once the game does start. It doesn't help matters that this is the White Sox we are talking about and there is no guarantee that they are going to use best practices to keep the playing surface in good shape. Somewhere Jerry Reinsdorf is furious that he might have to pay overtime to the grounds crew.

The good news is that the White Sox have already given us a timeline and this delay should, in theory, only last around an hour. This is relying on weather forecasts for a notoriously difficult to forecast region of the country, but that is the best guess at the moment and it seems to have some basis in reality.

We will keep this post updated as more information is released as to an official game start time as well as if there are any changes in the weather. Sit tight, because it does look like this game will get played tonight and, if trends hold, it should be a fun one for Tigers fans.
