Detroit Tigers Minor League Recap 4/17/2013: Erie Bats Break Out For 13 Hits

AAA: Indianapolis 2, Toledo 0

The Toledo Mud Hens only managed three hits in this game, all singles. Quintin Berry had one (1-4, 2 SO) and Gustavo Nunez had two (2-3). Jordan Lennerton also reached base with a walk. Nick Castellanos was 0-4 and Danny Worth left the game after only one at-bat.

Duane Below (2.33 ERA) got the start and allowed two runs over seven innings while striking out five and walking one. Jose Ortega (0.00 ERA) pitched an inning of scoreless relief with one walk and one strikeout. Evan Reed (3.52 ERA) struck out two and walked none in one inning as well.

Toledo falls to 3-11 for the year.

The SeaWolves totaled 13 hits in the 8-3 win over Bowie. Ramon Cabrera was 2-3 with a double and a walk, Brandon Douglas was 2-4 with a double, Jamie Johnson was 2-4 plus a walk, and James McCann and James Robbins each had a pair of singles. Daniel Fields was the only starter not to record a hit.

Warwick Saupold (2.50 ERA) got the start and allowed just one run in six innings to go with two walks and two strikeouts. Matt Crouse (5.59 ERA) struck out two batters in his two innings of relief, but also allowed a home run and two runs. Michael Morrison (3.00 ERA) struck out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Erie is 6-6.

A-Advanced: Brevard County 3, Lakeland 0

Wilsen Palacios (5.59 ERA) allowed three runs in six innings as the Lakeland starter. He struck out two and walked two. Nick Avila pitched three innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts.

Aaron Westlake had the team’s only extra base hit going 1-3 with a double. He now has 11 hits in his last seven games after a terribly slow start. Jeff McVaney and Chad Wright each had two singles.

Lakeland is now 4-9 on the year.
