The second day of Grapefruit League play brings the same opponent as the first day, but today the Atlanta Braves will travel to Lakeland to take on the Detroit Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium.

We’re fans — so we’re going to over analyze everything that happens in Spring Training play — but we would be well served to remember (myself included) that pretty much everything that happens statistically in Spring Training is meaningless.

When We Last Met

The Tigers ‘beat’ the Braves yesterday in a game that never actually ended. The heavens broke loose in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs, a runner on first base, and the Tigers leading by a 6-5 score. The contest was briefly put into a rain delay, but after a few minutes of discussion it was declared to be over (because who wants to wait out a rain delay in Spring Training?).

If this were a regular season game, play would have been suspended until the final out could be recorded, but things operate much less rigidly in February.

Tigers Lineup

Here is the scheduled starting lineup for the Tigers:

Rick Porcello is scheduled to start and pitch two innings.
