Detroit Tigers vs. Miami Marlins: Game Time, TV/Radio Coverage, Lineup

The Detroit Tigers played to a 7-7 tie yesterday afternoon against the New York Yankees (10 innings) — very unsatisfying for a baseball fan — but today is a new day with a new game to be played. Taking the hill for the Miami Marlins in Thursday’s tilt will be old friend, and former top Tigers prospect, Jacob Turner.

Since he was traded away from Detroit in 2012 (in the deal that brought back Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante), Turner has made 27 starts for the Marlins. The ERA looks good at 3.64, but his peripherals suggest he hasn’t pitched quite that well: only 5.9 strikeouts per nine innings to go with 3.5 walks. His FIP for the 2013 season was a sub-par 4.43 (3.95 was the average for NL starters in 2013).

When We Last Met

The Detroit Tigers defeated the Miami Marlins 3-1 on Sunday in a game started by Rick Porcello.

The last time the Tigers took the field against the Marlins in the regular season, they were no-hit by Henderson Alvarez just days before the playoffs began. While that fact — that they were no-hit — caused some consternation among the fan base at the time, it should be remembered that Don Kelly hit leadoff, Ramon Santiago played third base (Miguel Cabrera didn’t play), Prince Fielder took only one at-bat before yielding his playing time to Matt Tuiasosopo, Brayan Pena started in place of Alex Avila, and it was in an NL park so the pitchers had to bat.

  6. Steven Moya, RF
  7. Danny Worth, 3B
