Game Preview

It is hard to believe but the Detroit Tigers embark on their final unofficial road trip of the Grapefruit League season as they head one county over to play the Houston Astros in Kissimmee. The Tigers return to Lakeland for their final two games at Joker Marchant Stadium on Thursday and Friday (against the Rays and Yankees) before visiting Tropicana Field for a Saturday exhibition game (not technically a Grapefruit League game) before heading north.

Yesterday, Opening Day starter David Price had a game he’d like to forget–luckily for him, in his last start of Spring Training, this one didn’t count and CAN be forgotten. He was extremely sharp for three innings and then fell apart, ultimately allowed seven runs on eight hits with five strikeouts. The Pirates topped the Tigers 7-3.

When We Last Met

The Tigers last faced the Astros in Kissimmee as part of a split squad contest two weeks ago. Houston claimed the 4-3 victory and also won in the teams’ only other meeting on March 8 in a rout, 14-9 at Joker Marchant Stadium.

The teams will next meet in a May 22-24 series at Comerica Park and again in August in Houston.

Detroit Tigers Lineup

Recently cut Detroit Tiger Kyle Ryan will head to the mound in today’s game as the Tigers begin molding their rotation for the regular season and to take Justin Verlander out as he prepares for the next step in recovery from, a, um, cramp….

Ryan will be opposed by Dallas Keuchel for Houston.
