Detroit beat the opposition with offense in the first week of the season, and now the Tigers are dominating with starting pitching. In the last three games, Tigers starting pitchers have posted a 0.38 ERA.
Ace David Price has been the best of the bunch as it took Price until his third start to yield an earned run.
Right-handed pitcher Anibal Sanchez will hope to keep that success going on Saturday.
When We Last Met
The Tigers took game one of the series, 2-1, on Friday behind Price’s strong eight innings where he allowed his first earned run on a homer from Chicago right fielder Avisail Garcia. Yoenis Cespedes, however, tied the game with his monster shot over the left field fence in the fourth.
The game remained tied until the ninth when shortstop Jose Iglesias singled to score pinch runner Andrew Romine. Iglesias went 2-for-4 on Friday.
Pitching Matchup
As mentioned above, Sanchez will take the ball for the Tigers. He was credited with Detroit’s only loss of the season, which came on Monday versus the Pirates. He allowed five runs on eight hits, giving up three home runs.
In his previous start, though, he was very sharp, pitching 6 2/3 shutout innings against the Twins.
Left-hander Chris Sale will pitch for the White Sox. He is 1-0 and allowed one run in six innings during his first and only start of 2015. Sale is 5-5 with a 2.84 ERA in 11 starts against Detroit in his career.
