Game Preview

The Detroit Tigers will look to avoid their third straight loss as they again face the Milwaukee Brewers in the middle game of their interleague rivals three-game series on Tuesday night from Comerica Park.

As we reported earlier this morning, Victor Martinez has been officially placed on the 15-day disabled list in hopes of resting his ailing knee. Tyler Collins has been recalled from Toledo take his roster spot and will start at DH.

When We Last Met

The Detroit Tigers’ potent offense from a week ago has fallen back into a rut, scoring just three runs in the last two games, both losses. Facing an average pitcher on a bad team, the Tigers perhaps showed some fatigue by having a late night game on Sunday followed by travel back to Detroit and lost to the NL-worst Milwaukee Brewers 3-2.

Pitching Matchup

The roller coaster season for Anibal Sanchez (3-4, 4.76) went up another hill in his last outing. The inconsistent Tigers’ starter shutdown the Minnesota Twins by allowing one run on five hits with a walk and nine strikeouts in 8 innings of work in a 13-1 Detroit win on Thursday. He has not faced Milwaukee since his days of playing with the Marlins. He has posted a 2-1 record in seven starts with a 5.30 ERA.

25-year old Jimmy Nelson (1-4, 4.22) looks to right the ship after a pair of rough outings. He surrendered four runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings in a 4-2 loss against the White Sox last Wednesday. Nelson has allowed 17 runs over his last four starts spanning 23 innings.
