When We Last Met

The Detroit Tigers are facing the Kansas City Royals for the second time in as many weeks. They fared much better against the Royals last week at Comerica Park.

Detroit has scored just one run in the first two games of the series at Kauffman Stadium and will have to win on Wednesday to avoid a sweep. Coming into the series, the Tigers were 5-5 against the Royals this season, but they have been outscored 10-1 in the first two games this week.

Pitching Matchup

Left-hander Daniel Norris will be making his third start with the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. He pitched great in his first start, allowing one run on four hits in 7 1/3 innings against the Baltimore Orioles, but he was roughed up a bit in his last outing versus Boston. Against the Red Sox, Norris yielded five runs on nine hits in 3 1/3 frames.

Overall this season, Norris is 2-2 with a 4.24 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 26 strikeouts in 34 innings over seven starts.

Right-hander Edinson Volquez will start for Kansas City on Wednesday. He is 11-6 with a 3.11 ERA1.25 WHIP and 102 strikeouts in 139 innings. His only start versus the Tigers this season came on May 2, and he allowed two runs on five hits in six frames as Detroit won, 2-1.
