When We Last Met

Before Friday, it had been a long time since the Detroit Tigers faced the Minnesota Twins, and actually, some could point to the two teams’ last meeting as a turning point for the Tigers season.

Detroit took the first game of that series, but on July 10, the Tigers blew six-run lead to lose, 8-6, in the bottom of the ninth. The Twins also took the next two games, and the Tigers limped into the All-Star break with an even 44-44 record.

On Monday, it was much of the same as Detroit fell to Minnesota, 7-1, but the Tigers did get even with the Twins, winning Tuesday, 5-4.

Pitching Matchup

Detroit Tigers left-hander Daniel Norris will make his return off the disabled list to pitch on Wednesday. With the Tigers, Norris is 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA in 20 1/3 innings over four starts. This will be his first career start against Minnesota.

The Twins will send 32-year-old right-hander Ervin Santana to the mound to try and win the rubber match of the series on Wednesday. This will be Santana’s 14th start of the year as he was suspended the first half of the season due to a positive PED test.

Santana had some very bumpy starts in August, but in his last three outings, he has yielded just three runs in 22 innings. Santana earned a victory in all three of those appearances.

For the season, the right-hander is 5-4 with a 4.73 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 62 strikeouts in 80 innings.
