Perry Up, Wilk to AAA-Toledo

Shorty after the Tigers defeated the Dodgers on wednesday Jason Beck reported that Ryan Perry would join the team for their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"Detroit is recalling Perry from Triple-A Toledo, the team announced Wednesday, ending his three-week exile to straighten out his mechanics."

"Perry struggled to a 12.19 ERA in 10 1/3 innings with the Tigers this season, allowing 14 runs on 17 hits and nine walks, before he was optioned May 28. The former first-round Draft pick held hitters to nine hits over 16 innings in Toledo, walking three and striking out 16 while scattering three earned runs.If Ryan Perry is pitching right, not just right-handed, he could be a huge part of the middle and late innings for the Tigers."

Earlier last week I discussed his progress as a Mud Hen. I still stand firm that the Tigers are a better team with Perry in the ‘pen. I’m not blind to the fact that he has struggled this season. Seriously, Perry looked more like former Tiger Jason Grilli than the flame throwing reliever that was drafted in the first round in 2008. Regardless, Perry has the stuff required to contribute in the late innings. After a less than stellar first half last season, Perry turned it up a notch and posted a 2.37 ERA in 38 innings after the All-Star break.

The bullpen was obviously to left-handed and Perry seems to have ironed things out so I applaud the move. Hopefully Perry is ready to be more like Ryan Perry and less like Jason Grilli.
