Tigers Put Young On Restricted List, Recall Danny Worth

The Tigers made the move today that wasn’t unexpected by any means, putting OF Delmon Young on the restricted list. Interestingly enough, the recall of Worth comes a day after the Tigers essentially announced that Ryan Raburn will be pretty much the every day 2B, and Brad Eldred the designated hitter. It sort of begs the question, is there playing time for Danny Worth?

The short answer to that is yes.

The Tigers haven’t had themselves too many leads lately, but Worth has defensive replacement potential at multiple positions, mainly 2B and 3B. He also makes sense as a starting option on occasion as a 2B when the Tigers face a left-handed pitcher on the mound. Worth was hitting well in Toledo at .309, but the surprising thing is the pop he was showing, slugging .600 at the time of his call up.

The Tigers take on the Yankees today at 4 p.m. when rookie Drew Smyly gets his first crack at the Yankees and Yankee Stadium.

Other Notes:

The Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels each called up their superstar prospects for today as well. Bryce Harper and Mike Trout will get their shot to show they are ready to play every day. Trout’s opportunity is coming because of the release of OF Bobby Abreu, a guy that might be a little more attractive to the Tigers with the Delmon Young situation.
