Ernie Harwell opened every Spring Training with this passage and it always meant that while snow may still be flying  in Detroit, warmer weather and Tigers’ baseball was on the way.

In years past, I’d hurry home from school to catch a couple innings of the first Grapefruit League game. After the second inning, it might sound like an owl convention with all the times that word “who” was uttered. The first week or so of Spring Training is filled with prospects and nonroster invitees, so its natural to utter a who or 10.

Let’s take a look at how the Detroit Tigers 40-man (plus non-roster invitees) roster looks heading into the official opening of camp on Feb. 13. Click through the slideshow for the names of the men who will wear the Old English D in Spring Training 2014.
