Justin Verlander (3.2 IP, 2 SO, 1 H, 2 BB, 0 ER) pitched well in his first round of spring action on Tuesday, but the Detroit Tigers eventually lost the game in extra innings. A two-run home run by Don Kelly was the day’s offense by the Tigers.

When We Last Met
The Tigers dropped a 3-2 decision to the New York Yankees last Friday after a balk by relief pitcher Luis Marte pushed across the game winning run in the ninth inning. Manager Brad Ausmus took the blame after the game saying he accidently gave Marte the sign to throw to the unoccupied base. But I guess that’s what Spring Training’s for: to make mistakes and learn so that this sort of thing doesn’t happen during the regular season.
