When We Last Met
The Tampa Bay Rays took three of four from Detroit in the first week in July, and have been climbing back out of the cellar in the AL East. The Detroit Tigers are pushing to regain the top of the AL Central.The Tigers and Rays are both coming off series losses and looking to recover.
Pitching Matchup
Max Scherzer(14-4, 2.98 ERA) was lights out and completely dominant in his last start, an 8 inning effort in which he did not give up a run on three hits and two walks. Scherzer struck out 14 against the Pirates, with each batter in their lineup getting wrung up at least once. Scherzer is 4-2 with a 2.56 ERA in his career against Tampa Bay.
Chris Archer(8-6, 3.24 ERA) was also stellar in his last start against the Texas Rangers, going 7 innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks and taking the win. Archer is 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA against the Tigers in his career.
