When We Last Met
The Detroit Tigers took game one of the series in 11 innings, after a little luck and some bounces finally going their way. Newly recalled relief pitcher Jim Johnson got the win and Joe Nathan got the save, though Nathan was less than crisp, giving up a single and a walk before shutting down the Rays and getting the final out to cement the win.
Pitching Matchup
Rick Porcello(13-8 3.28 ERA) got knocked around by the Seattle Mariners in his last start, going six innings, giving up six earned runs(seven runs total) on ten hits. Prior to that start, Porcello pitched out of the bullpen in the 19 inning game against Toronto, which may have contributed to his seeming discomfort on the mound against Seattle. Porcello is 2-3 with a 3.96 in his career against Tampa Bay.
Jake Odorizzi(9-9, 3.82 ERA) had a strong start in his last outing against the Texas Rangers, going seven innings, and giving up two runs on four hits and a walk. Odorizzi has never faced the Detroit Tigers before in his career.
