Game Preview
After playing the first two of three games at home in Lakeland, the Detroit Tigers will face a LONG 2+ hour bus ride to the spring home of the New York Mets, which is why the team will make this trip only once in Spring Training and they are getting it out of the way in the first week. The Mets will return the favor and travel to Joker Marchant Stadium in two weeks.
The game will feature an intriguing pitching matchup with David Price receiving his first start of the spring against New York’s Matt Harvey, the young phenom who was injured against the Tigers in a 2013 regular season game and missed the rest of that season and 2014 after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
When We Last Met
New York won both games against Detroit last Spring Training, but the Tigers swept the Mets in a three-game series the last time they played in the regular season at Citi Field in August 2013.
Last season was another tough one for the Mets, finishing 79-83, their sixth consecutive losing season.
Detroit Tigers Lineup
David Price figures to have a much better time than he did during a short window with the Tigers last year. With this being a contract year, it might be the best of Price’s career as the two sides consider engaging in the long-term deal dance. This will be his first opportunity to prepare to drive up his asking price.
