Game Preview
The Detroit Tigers have yet to defeat the New York Yankees this spring but will give it one final chance in their second to last game in Joker Marchant Stadium this Spring Training.
The Tigers were edged by the Houston Astros, 3-2 yesterday in Kissimmee. Starting in place of Justin Verlander, Kyle Ryan allowed all three Houston runs in the first inning. A laundry list of Tigers’ relievers shut the door while the offense sputtered.
When We Last Met
The Tigers jumped out to a huge lead last Tuesday in Tampa, leading 8-2 until the bottom fell out of the bullpen. Kyle Ryan three runs and couldn’t emerge from the inning he started and Rafael Dolis allowed the Yankees to walk-off with the 9-8 win.
It won’t be long before the historic rivals see each other again as the Yankees will come into Comerica Park for the Tigers’ second homestand of the season, April 21-23. Detroit will go to the Bronx in a weekend series from June 19 to 21.
Detroit Tigers Lineup
Shane Greene was originally scheduled to pitch against his old mates but because of the rotation shuffling because of Justin Verlander’s injury, Brad Ausmus will go with Angel Nesbitt instead. A reliever all of spring, Nesbitt will likely go just two innings and then a parade of relievers will come in much like Wednesday’s game.
The Yankees will be going with Bryan Mitchell, who is sporting a 7.36 ERA this spring.
