Detroit Tigers: Greene to Triple-A, Ryan stays in rotation, Miggy bomb

Detroit Tigers right-handed pitcher Shane Greene has been the epitome of an inconsistent major league pitcher in his short time in the big leagues.

But lately … he has been consistently bad.

Since posting a 0.39 ERA after three starts, Greene has a horrible 8.60 ERA over the last 45 innings. In that stretch, if he would have allowed just two more earned runs, Greene would have a 1.00 RAI, which is a new stat MCB invented. It stands for Runs Allowed per Inning.

In other words, Greene has been bad, and the Tigers are sending him to Triple-A Toledo to get back on track.

But even with Justin Verlander making his return this weekend, the Tigers still need another pitcher to complete the starting rotation. That man will likely be left-hander Kyle Ryan.

Ryan was originally brought up to make an emergency start, but he pitched extremely well and has continued to earn playing time. Ryan is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA and has yielded just 10 hits in 13 innings.

On the field Friday, the Tigers opened up the weekend series against the Cleveland Indians with a, 4-0, victory. Ace David Price was fantastic, throwing a complete-game shutout, but first baseman Miguel Cabrera was incredible as well.

Cabrera drove in all four runs, and three of them came on a massive bomb to deep, deep center field. We are serious. There are bombs … and then there are “Miggy” bombs that travel over 450 feet in the air. Check out the highlight of the home run if you missed it.

For the season, Greene is 4-6 with a 5.82 ERA. He has struck out 44 batters in 68 innings.Greene had flown off the tracks lately, allowing 20 earned runs in his past four starts — all losses — and posted an 8.60 ERA in 10 starts after three spectacular starts to open the season. The early season highlights — three consecutive outings with one earned run or fewer — have been washed away by the recent lowlights, the lowest of which was a 1 2/3-inning performance against the Los Angeles Angels on May 29, in which he allowed five home runs.

Detroit Tigers teammates react to home run to camera platform by Miguel Cabrera: ‘It’s not fair’ – Chris Iott, MLive.com

Miguel Cabrera hit a prodigious three-run home run Friday night to break a scoreless tie and launch the Tigers to a 4-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians.“It’s a joke,” Nick Castellanos said. “It’s a joke. I can’t hit a ball that far from second base.”Tigers manager Brad Ausmus estimated the home run at 457 feet. ESPN Stats and Info pegged it at 452 feet, which is 14 feet short of the longest home run Cabrera has ever hit at Comerica Park. That came in the 2012 season. The ball hit off the platform at the base of the camera well in center field and bounded high into the air.
