Game Preview
The Detroit Tigers are riding a modest two-game winning streak and will try to extend it with their ace, David Price, on the mound.
When We Last Met
Detroit has dominated the series with Cleveland this season, going 8-2 versus the Tribe. The Tigers won on Monday, 8-5, as Detroit exploded for another offensive outburst versus starter Trevor Bauer and the Indians.
In particular, Miguel Cabrera has hammered Cleveland pitching this year. Over ten games, he is slashing .649/.702/1.108 with five home runs and 16 RBI in 37 at-bats versus the Indians in 2015. Cabrera picked up an RBI on Monday with a bases-loaded walk.
Pitching Matchup
As previously mentioned, Price will be on the bump for Detroit. He has been the staff’s ace this season, going 6-2 with a 2.50 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 88 strikeouts in 97 1/3 innings.
Price hasn’t allowed more than two runs in a start since May 16. In his last outing versus the Indians, Price threw a complete-game shutout.
Right-hander Danny Salazar will start for Cleveland. He is 6-2 with a 3.56 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 91 strikeouts in 73 1/3 innings this season.
Salazar lost that start versus Price, 4-0, on June 12. Salazar didn’t pitch poorly, though, but fell victim to a massive Cabrera three-run bomb.
