Game Preview
The Detroit Tigers made the last of their trade deadline moves right before the 4 pm ending point, sending Yoenis Cespedes to the New York Mets for prospects. Yo was originally in the lineup for the Tigers. Tyler Collins has been called up but likely will not be in Baltimore before gametime.
When We Last Met
Hours after a pair of trades that officially began the “reboot” of YOUR Detroit Tigers, the bats came out in full force, led largely by three homers from likely the next guy to be traded, Yoenis Cespedes. The Tigers built a 7-0 and 9-2 lead but let the Baltimore Orioles back in it (because of course they did) until Alex Wilson slammed the door shut with a five-out save, the first save of his career. Sign of things to come?
No matter what, the Tigers won two straight for the first time in nearly a month.
Pitching Matchup
With the departure of David Price to the Toronto Blue Jays, Shane Greene to the bullpen and Kyle Lobstein‘s return hardly a certainty, prepare yourself for lots of Buck Farmer (0-2, 10.17). He carries a bloated ERA into this game because he was lit up for 12 runs in his first 10.1 innings, both coming in starts, but calmed things down in his last outing coming in relief on July 11, allowing two runs in 3.1 innings.
Wei-Yin Chen (5-6, 2.88) did not face the Tigers in Detroit two weeks ago, but did have a nice outing his last time out, allowing two runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of work. He is 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in two career starts against the Tigers.
