When We Last Met
The Toronto Blue Jays teed off on the Detroit Tigers pitching, as expected, resulting in a 15-1 decimation on Saturday. Nothing else really to say.
Pitching Matchup
Buck Farmer et al were lit up in the last game, something that Alfredo Simon (11-8, 4.89) is used to. Over his last five games, he’s allowed runs of 4, 6, 4, 0, and 8. How he threw that one-hit complete game shutout back on Aug. 20 is anyone’s guess. In his last outing, Simon went just 4.1 innings, allowing nine runs (eight earned).
Tigers’ old nemesis Mark Buehrle (13-6, 3.60) is on the mound for the sweep-seeking Blue Jays. He’s played in 36 games (35 starts) against Detroit, dating back to his extended time with the divisional rival Chicago White Sox, going 18-10 with a 3.52 ERA and 1.256 WHIP. He earned a no-decision in his previous start, allowing five runs in a 6-5 Toronto win over Texas on Tuesday.
