When We Last Met

The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians meet for the first time since the end of June. Detroit has just dominated the series against Cleveland this season, going 9-3 versus the Tribe. In those 12 games, the Tigers have averaged 5.8 runs per game.

In particular, first baseman Miguel Cabrera has crushed Indians pitching this season. Cabrera is slashing an absurd .619/.673/1.024 with five home runs, 16 RBI and 12 runs in 52 plate appearances versus Cleveland in 2015. Against Corey Kluber, Cabrera is 20-for-35 (.571) with five homers in his career.

Pitching Matchup

After a horrible week of starting pitching, the Tigers fans can smile a bit because left-hander Kyle Lobstein returns to the mound. His numbers won’t impress anyone, but Detroit has greatly missed him while he was on the disabled list with his shoulder injury. Before hitting the disabled list, Lobstein was 3-5 with a 4.34 ERA, 1.448 WHIP and 20 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings this season.

As previously mentioned, Kluber will take the rubber for the Indians. Although that is usually good news for Cleveland, Cabrera, J.D. Martinez and Victor Martinez all have great lifetime numbers against the right hander.

Kluber still strikeouts a lot of batters, but he hasn’t been nearly as dominated this season after taking the AL Cy Young last year. He is 8-13 with a 3.41 ERA, 1.033 WHIP and 219 strikeouts in 200 1/3 innings this season.
