When We Last Met

A lot has changed for the Detroit Tigers since they last met the Chicago White Sox at the end of June. Detroit took that series, 2-1, with the fourth game getting rained out. The make up will be on Monday as the Tigers and White Sox will play a day-night doubleheader.

The Tigers lead the series, 8-7, with four meetings left between the two teams before the end of the season. The White Sox swept the double header on Monday, but the Tigers answered by nearly throwing a combined no-hitter and then winning in walk-off fashion on Tuesday.

Pitching Matchup

Ace Justin Verlander will be on the mound Wednesday afternoon for the Tigers. He is just 3-8 this season, but Verlander does support a healthy 3.46 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 114 1/3 innings. Since July 24, he has a 2.13 ERA. This will be Verlander’s first start versus the White Sox this season.

The White Sox will have rookie Frankie Montas pitching Wednesday. He doesn’t have a decision yet in the big leagues, but he has a 1.13 ERA in eight innings. This will actually be Montas’ first start of his major league career.
