The Detroit Tigers fell to the Seattle Mariners 6-5 in the middle game of their three game series. The game lasted 15 innings as both team’s bullpens were generally productive.
Detroit Tigers starter Daniel Norris got the start in his first game back from the disabled list. He looked sharp with his fastball and curveball, but could not get out of the sixth inning. Overall, he finished with a line of Five innings pitched, seven hits allowed, one earned run, two walks and three strikeouts on 85 pitches.
The Tigers got on the board first in this game as the first four batters reached. Ian Kinsler hit a double, Jose Iglesias hit a single, Miguel Cabrera hit a single, and Victor Martinez hit a single to give the Tigers the 2-0 lead.
The Tigers had some opportunities to add on to their lead, but their only runs came on home runs in the earlier innings. Miguel Cabrera and J.D. Martinez added solo shots for the Tigers, but they could not cash in on multiple scoring situations.
Between the home runs, the Mariners got on the board thanks to a couple of hard hit balls and a misplay. Robinson Cano hit a double to lead off the fourth. He came around to score on a triple from Nelson Cruz, which was just a misplay from J.D. when he jumped for a ball at the right field wall. Norris then stranded Cruz at third with no one out to finish the inning.
Both teams had the bases loaded in this game with a chance to change the outlook of the game. The Tigers loaded the bases in the fourth, but did not score any runs with the opportunity.
The Mariners loaded the bases in the sixth and hit two balls foul that went a combined 800 feet, but two strikeouts and a fly ball did not net the Mariners a run while they were down 4-1.
The Tigers then turned to their bullpen to shut down the Mariners for the rest of the game. Kyle Ryan continued his dominance against the Mariners this season, retiring all three batters he faced in the seventh inning.
