Detroit Tigers baseball is back. The regular season kicks off for the Tigers on Tuesday, as the team is in Chicago for their first series of the season. Here’s what you need to know to watch.
Detroit Tigers players will finally take the field for Opening Day. After Monday’s debut was postponed due to weather, the Tigers return on Tuesday to play the team’s first official contest of the season.
The Tigers will open up the 2017 regular season in Chicago against a White Sox team that will be moving forward without some key pieces.
All in all, the Sox traded away ace Chris Sale and standout outfielder Adam Eaton.
None of the seven players the team received for Sale and Eaton are on the Opening Day roster, but Chicago is set up for a brighter future.
Elsewhere, the White Sox also lost some key complimentary pieces.
Alex Avila, Justin Morneau, Matt Albers and Austin Jackson all departed via free agency early in the offseason, while Brett Lawrie was released in March.

Tigers Return Similar Unit
While the White Sox lost plenty of talent, the Detroit Tigers enter 2017 with a similar roster.
With the exceptions of JaCoby Jones replacing Cameron Maybin, a new bench and Mike Pelfrey and Mark Lowe having been released, this is the same team that came so close to entering the 2016 playoffs as a Wild Card team.
According to a tweet from Detroit’s official Twitter account on Tuesday morning, this is how the Tigers will line up on Tuesday.
- Ian Kinsler, Second Base
- Nick Castellanos, Third Base
- Miguel Cabrera, First Base
- Victor Martinez, Designated Hitter
- Justin Upton, Left Field
- Mikie Mahtook, Right Field
- James McCann, Catcher
- JaCoby Jones, Center Field
- Jose Iglesias, Shortstop
