Detroit Tigers baseball is back on Friday. The team continues the 2017 regular season on the road against the Chicago White Sox. Here’s what you need to know to watch the game.
Detroit Tigers players will look to rebound with a win in the first game of a series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
The Tigers previously dropped Thursday’s contest in Houston to close out a four-game series. Justin Verlander was shelled for nine hits, six runs, three walks and three home runs in 5.2 innings.
Most of the damage came in the fourth when Carlos Correa, Marwin Gonzalez and Juan Centeno all launched home runs off Detroit’s ace.
Unfortunately, Correa and Gonzalez’ blasts came with men on base.
Despite the poor inning from Verlander, the Tigers showed well at the plate.
The team registered 10 hits and four runs off Houston starter Mike Fiers, knocking him out after just 4.2 frames of work.
Detroit would tack on two more runs later, notching four hits, two walks and two runs in 4.2 innings against Houston’s vaunted bullpen.
Justin Upton led the way for the Tigers with three hits, three RBI and a runs scored in five at-bats. He took reliever Will Harris deep in the seventh.
Meanwhile, J.D. Martinez also homered as part of a two-hit effort. Miguel Cabrera and Jose Iglesias also notched two hits apiece, while Alex Avila and Tyler Collins both reached base twice.
