Detroit Tigers fans will see another one of the team’s players suit up for the American League team, as Justin Upton has been named to the roster. The Tigers announced the move in a tweet Friday.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Justin Upton is heading to the All-Star Game.

The 29-year-old, who previously made the National League teams in 2009 and 2011 as a member of the Diamondbacks, and later in 2015 with San Diego, is representing the American League.

Detroit announced the move in a tweet on the team’s official Twitter account on Friday.

The Tigers tweeted the following:

"“Congrats @JUST_JUP on being added to the American League All-Star Team!”"

Upton has been one of Detroit’s best offensive performers this season. He currently paces all position players with a 2.4 WAR and 15 home runs.

The slugging outfielder has also contributed a 131 wRC+, an .872 OPS, a .238 ISO and a .369 wOBA. He’s also one stolen base off Ian Kinsler for the team lead.

Additionally, Upton has provided solid value defensively, with a DRS of 10, a 9.8 UZR/150 and a 5.2 UZR.

The 2017 first half continues an excellent run of form for Upton, who was an offensive force for Detroit down the stretch in 2016.

Upton mashed 18 home runs to go along with 41 RBI, 28 runs scored, 19 walks and eight doubles in 156 plate appearances (38 games). He also turned in a blistering 1.162 OPS over the same span.

The late hot streak nearly helped propel the Tigers into the playoffs, however, Detroit ended up just missing the postseason.

How Justin Upton stacks up against the competition

Upton’s inclusion in the All-Star game certainly isn’t a surprise given his strong numbers in 2017.

Only six outfielders (Aaron Judge, Mookie Betts, George Springer, Mike Trout, Corey Dickerson and Aaron Hicks) have a higher WAR among American League outfielders.

Upton also checks in sixth in ISO and wOBA, seventh in slugging percentage, eighth in wRC+, 12th in on-base percentage, and — in wOBA among outfielders in the Junior Circuit.

The All-Star Game will take place in Miami, Florida this season.

It will air on Fox on July 11, 2017. Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Michael Fulmer was named to the American League team, but he won’t pitch due to the fact that he’s starting for Detroit on Sunday.

Next: Bruce Rondon is on a fine run of form

Detroit returns to action Saturday for the second game of the team’s series in Cleveland.
