Detroit Tigers baseball returns on Tuesday as the team continues the 2017 regular season at home against the New York Yankees. Here’s what you need to know.
Detroit Tigers players will look to start the week off on a positive note against the New York Yankees.
After having Monday off following a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Tigers are back in action Tuesday as they do battle with the American League East heavyweights.
The Tigers will look to build some positive momentum after beating the Dodgers by a final score of 6-1 in Sunday’s series finale.
Justin Verlander was dominant, holding Los Angeles to two hits, a run and a walk in eight strong innings.
The only run came in on a home run that bounced off the foul pole from former teammate Curtis Granderson.
Daniel Stumpf allowed a hit and notched a strikeout in the ninth inning.
Offensively, Detroit did most of the team’s damage in the bottom of the sixth.
Following Granderson’s solo home run, the Tigers pushed four runs across against Dodgers’ starter Kenta Maeda. Justin Upton, Miguel Cabrera and Dixon Machado each drove in two runs apiece, with both of Upton’s RBI coming on a towering home run in the sixth.
Elsewhere, Cabrera and Romine had two hits each, while the bottom of the lineup was particularly productive.
John Hicks, Romine and Machado combined to go 4-for-9 with three runs scored and two RBI.
