Detroit Tigers players will look to rebound on Saturday following a series-opening loss to the Chicago White Sox.

The Tigers held a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning, but couldn’t hold on for the win.

Justin Verlander threw a strong outing for Detroit, scattering six hits, two walks, two runs and a home run over seven frames of work.

Verlander also struck out eight.

Alex Wilson relieved the ace and worked around a hit and a walk to turn in a scoreless eighth inning.

Following Wilson, Joe Jimenez took the mound in the night and promptly allowed a pair of hits on just four pitches as Chicago won on a walk off hit by Yolmer Sanchez.

Offensively, Victor Martinez led the way for the Tigers with three hits and a run scored. Andrew Romine, who started in center field, also had a multi-hit game, with a pair of base knocks.

Jose Iglesias drove in both of the Tigers’ runs on a single in the top of the fifth inning that scored both Martinez and Romine.
