Detroit Tigers: Another round of spring training cuts

Here at The Corner, we round up Detroit Tigers news and rumors around the Tigers blogosphere so that you don’t spend hours surfing the web searching.

The Detroit Tigers made another round of cuts for spring training this morning. They sent a total of eleven players to minor-league camp.  Among those that they sent to minor-league camp were Ryan Carpenter, Mike Gerber.

The team has also announced that they plan on extending the safety nets around Comerica Park.

The Tigers acquired Victor Reyes via the Rule 5 draft. The Tigers face a tough decision with Reyes writes Chris McCosky. If they don’t keep him on the 40-man roster, they’ll have to place him on waivers where another team could claim him.

Jordan Zimmerman pitched a five-inning shutout today against the Yankees. According to Evan Woodbery, it’s the best he’s felt in nearly three years. The Detroit Tigers recently announced that Francisco Liriano is going to be in the starting rotation. Mike Gilpatrick analyzes whether he actually belongs there or not.

Matt Boyd is one of four pitchers competing for one of the three remaining spots. Jim Kramer breaks down whether its plausible for him to win one of three spots.

The team also announced that they plan to utilize JaCoby Jones as a utility-player rather than an outfielder. It’s a move that might end up hurting him or more than it’ll help him.
