The Detroit Tigers have announced that Jordan Zimmerman will be the starter on opening day. It will be Zimmerman’s first opening day start in the Motor City. Chris McCosky, of the Detroit News, called the announcement a bombshell.  Detroit Sports Nation points out that most people expected Michael Fulmer to be the opening day starter.

Anthony Fenech, of the Detroit Free Press, writes that tabbing Zimmerman was the right call. With Zimmerman getting the start on opening day, who will be the starter on day two of the season? Deadline Detroit writes that the announcement from Ron Gardenhire isn’t a joke.

The Tigers are facing off against the Tampa Bay Rays in an exhibition match today. Miguel Cabrera hit his first homer of spring training in the game yesterday.  The home run contributed to the Tigers beating the Yankees yesterday. His homer came off a pitch from Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka.

SB Nation’s Bless You Boys ranked all the MLB teams from first to worst. In July, Alan Trammell will be inducted into the baseball hall of fame. The lifetime Tiger is ready for the ceremony. The induction is a dream come true for Trammell.
