Here at The Corner, we round up Detroit Tigers news and rumors around the Tigers blogosphere so that you don’t spend hours surfing the web searching.
The Detroit Tigers have lost one of their top pitching prospects to injury. George Sipple, of the Detroit Free Press, reports that the team announced the injury on Monday. Prospect Franklin Perez is excepted to miss twelve weeks but fortunately isn’t in need of surgery. Perez came to the Tigers via the trade that sent Justin Verlander to the Astros.
Lynn Henning, of the Detroit News, writes that the injury won’t be a significant setback for the pitching prospect. The LAT strain will cause significant time lost and the will require plenty of rest out of Perez.
The Detroit Tigers have a side-arm pitching prospect in John Schreiber. George Sipple writes that Schreiber hopes to add to 2017, where he had a record-setting year. He finished 2017 with 44 consecutive innings without an earned run while playing for West Michigan last season. We profiled Schreiber as one of our four “under-the-radar” prospects.
Michael Fulmer is slated to start in the second game of the regular season. He pitched in five innings yesterday during the exhibition game against the Orioles. In the outing, he showcased his slider. The slider is a factor in Fulmer being excited about the 2018 season, writes Evan Woodbery.
Fulmer is still on track to pitch in the regular season. He allowed just two runs in the loss yesterday to the Orioles. His start had been pushed back due to elbow inflation caused by throwing his slider.
George Sipple quoted Fulmer as saying:
"“I was hyperextending my elbow, which led to that elbow inflammation, soreness, whatever it was,” Fulmer said. “I stopped throwing it that way.”’"

The Tigers have some pretty neat tickets for games this year. Ashley MacLennan, of Bless You Boys, had a chance to talk to the designer and they’re worth a look. You can see the commemorative tickets and read the piece here.
Bless You Boys also has a preview of the 2018 Detroit Tigers. They lead off with the obvious statement-the Tigers aren’t going to be good for awhile.
