Here at The Corner, we round up Detroit Tigers news and rumors around the Tigers blogosphere so that you don’t spend hours surfing the web searching.

The Detroit Tigers gave their first overall draft pick the largest ever signing bonus in history. According to the Detroit News, RHP Casey Mize signed with the Tigers and received a $7.5 million dollar bonus.

Mize will likely take the same path through the minors as Alex Faedo. After signing with the Tigers, Faedo rested until the following season before making his debut in Lakeland.

Kody Clemens, son of Roger Clemens, also signed a deal with the Detroit Tigers. Tigers prospect, Franklin Perez, made his long-anticipated return after suffering an injury last March.

Prospect Alex Faedo was recently spotted at Comerica Park. Faedo was promoted to Double-A Erie and missed out on the Single-A All-Star break. As a result, the Tigers gave him an unofficial All-Star break and he ended up at Comerica Park.

Over at the Athletic, there are several articles worth reading. Emily Waldon talked to the West Michigan Whitecaps pitching coach about a variety of subjects including Joe Jimenez and Matt Manning. Jordan Horrobin writes that with Francisco Liriano back the Tigers have a crowded starting rotation.

Finally, Kurt Mensching writes that there’s no easy answer for Tigers slugger Nicholas Castellanos. Whether you trade or keep him isn’t easy and either outcome could hurt the rebuild in the long run. You need a subscription to read these articles, but subscribing to the Athletic is well worth the investment.

It’s no secret that the Detroit Tigers are looking to be sellers at the Trade Deadline. However, Lynn Henning, of the Detroit News, writes that the team might be hardpressed to find buyers which suit their needs. Which, as Bless You Boys points out this means that trade rumor season is upon us.
