The Arizona Diamondbacks
After the J.D. Martinez trade in 2017, fans of the Tigers may be hesitant to see the two teams link up on another deal. Reality is, the Diamondbacks have had ten pitchers start games this season. Both Shelby Miller and Clay Buchholz are currently on the disabled list. Taijuan Walker is out for the season. Robbie Ray and Zach Godley haven’t replicated their 2017 success. Much like with the Yankees or Dodgers, Fiers could provide depth at the bottom end. Consistent pitching could move the needle considerably for the Diamondbacks. They sit just a half game back of the Dodgers and Braves respectively in the division and wild card races.
The Diamondbacks could send yet another infield prospect back as a return, with Geraldo Perdomo being a target. Perdomo is a lanky prospect with a frame to fill, but has the defensive prowess to stay at shortstop. His approach has drawn praise and he is a threat on the basepaths despite average speed. Perdomo is a lofty target based on talent alone, but the Diamondbacks could be willing to part with the risky yet projectable prospect.
