Detroit Tigers: Casey Mize makes midseason prospect list

The Detroit Tigers newest prospect, Casey Mize, has had plenty of hype this week. He made Baseball America’s top 100 prospects earlier this week. As well, Keith Law, of ESPN, released his top fifty midseason prospects. He put Mize all the way at 14th on the list.
Over at the Detroit Free Press, George Sipple answered some questions about prospects. Including, which ones might get a September call-up this season. Max Bultman, of the Athletic, took a trip through the Tigers farm system to get a look at what the future for the Olde English D might look like. Also at the Athletic, six minor league pitchers with big league projections.
The Baltimore Orioles traded away their star player Manny Machado earlier this week. ESPN took the time to look at what happens to teams after they trade their star players. On the list of teams they examined-the Detroit Tigers and Justin Verlander.
One of the few bright spots for the Detroit Tigers this season is the celebration of the 1968 World Series Championship. Over at MLive.com, you can read what the members of the ’68 World Champs are up to now.

In house, our own Andy Patton thinks that Tiger great Bill Freehan should be a Hall of Famer. He’s one of the Tigers greatest catchers, but has been snubbed from Cooperstown. Patton also explores Nicholas Castellanos trade scenarios. GM Al Avila has expressed that any player on the roster is available for the right price.
However, at some point some players have to be kept – trading players for other players all the time doesn’t end a rebuild. If anything, it just makes things a circus ride.
