The Detroit Tigers have the best record in baseball, and they could have as many as three starters take the field for the American League squad at the 2025 MLB All-Star Game on July 15. (If you include Tarik Skubal starting the game, it could be four.)
The first phase of All-Star balloting is complete, and Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres as well as outfielders Riley Greene and Javier Báez have all advanced to the next round of the voting process. Torres led all AL second basemen in the first round of voting, while Greene trailed only Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees as the No. 2 vote-getter among AL outfielders.
Vote totals reset in the second phase of balloting, which begins Monday. Torres will be up against the Baltimore Orioles' Jackson Holliday, while Greene and Báez will be up against the Los Angeles Angels’ Mike Trout and the Cleveland Guardians’ Steven Kwan.
First phase of All-Star voting shows how promising the 2025 Tigers truly are
Greene is having an excellent season as he chases his second straight All-Star berth with the Tigers. In 80 games, he has slashed .295/.349/.529 with 17 home runs and 61 RBI. Even if he doesn't end up claiming one of the starting spots, he feels like a lock to be selected as a reserve.
Torres has enjoyed an offensive renaissance since signing a one-year deal with the Tigers in free agency this offseason. The former Yankees infielder has played in 69 games and slashed .281/.386/.430 with eight home runs and 40 RBI. His only other All-Star appearances came with New York in 2018 and 2019.
Báez is having a resurgent season at the plate, slashing .289/.328/.466 with nine home runs and 36 RBI. He presents a bit of a conundrum, though, as he is now a finalist at a position he no longer plays.
When the ballots were first released, Báez was the Tigers' everyday center fielder – a position he had not played prior to this season, making his performance all the more impressive. However, Parker Meadows has since returned from the injured list, shifting Báez back to his habitual role in the infield.
Should Báez make the AL All-Star team this year, it would be his third appearance in the midsummer classic. He made the National League squad in 2018 and 2019 with the Chicago Cubs, both times as an infielder.
The second phase of voting begins at noon ET on June 30 and runs through noon ET on July 2. Fans can vote once per day, and the starters will be announced July 2 at 7 p.m. on ESPN. Get the Gritty Tigs to Atlanta.
