2025 All-Star Game voting is officially open, and the Tigers are in a better position than they've been in years to feature heavily on the American League's roster. Through June 6, Detroit is still sitting on the best record in baseball and are still the only team to win 40+ games. National media still seem split on whether or not what the Tigers are doing is real, but they're proving it with every win.
The last Tiger to start in an All-Star Game was Miguel Cabrera in 2015, the last year Detroit sent more than two representatives. More often than not, the Tigers have been accounted for only by a single pitcher thrown in to make sure that someone in the Olde English D was on the roster.
In 2024, Tarik Skubal was an easy choice for the players' ballot and Commissioner's Office, but he was snubbed for a starting role in favor of Corbin Burnes. Riley Greene was also elected by fellow players but didn't start the game.
Early predictions for the AL roster this year indicate a huge shift in the tide. The Athletic named three Tigers for starting roles — Skubal and Greene, of course, but also Gleyber Torres, who hasn't been to an All-Star Game since 2019 — his best year with the Yankees by some metrics.

Spencer Torkelson also got a nod from the Athletic as a first base reserve, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. projected to take the starting spot.
Torres currently leads AL second basemen in OPS at .775, thanks in large part to his .379 OBP, which is 65 points better than Kristian Campbell's in second place. The Tigers have been looking for the right veteran with exemplary plate discipline for years; last year, they only sort of found one in Mark Canha, but Torres has exceeded expectations so far in Detroit, which has incensed Yankees fans who grew frustrated with him by the end of his tenure in New York.
Meanwhile, the Athletic's predictions only feature two Yankees starters, Aaron Judge and Trent Grisham, with Max Fried and Carlos Rodón as reserve pitchers.
Yankees fans don't need any more reminders that Torres has seemingly rediscovered himself since leaving the Bronx, but it's still funny every time they're offered one. Torres, meanwhile, has totally bought into what the Tigers are trying to build and is becoming an integral part of that mission.
