The Tarik Skubal trade rumors are not going to stop anytime soon. After the Detroit Tigers lost their arbitration hearing to Skubal, there has only been more speculation that a split could be coming at some point.
When Skubal does hit free agency following this season, many believe the Los Angeles Dodgers will be one of the team to pursue Skubal most aggressively because they're the Dodgers, they print money, and they can basically get any free agent they want.
However, if the Dodgers want to cut in line and get Skubal before he hits free agency, this trade proposal could be enough to get it done.
Tarik Skubal trade proposal with Dodgers would land Tigers a future ace
One trade proposal from Bleacher Report has the Dodgers landing Skubal in exchange for Roki Sasaki, Zyhir Hope, and Jackson Ferris from the Dodgers.
This would be an unfathomable blockbuster. The Tigers would land arguably LA's most promising young arm in Sasaki.
The Dodgers didn't use Sasaki much last season as he dealt with injuries and they tried to preserve his arm for the postseason. In 10 appearances (36 innings pitched, he posted a 4.46 ERA.
The 24-year-old out of Japan was stellar as the Dodgers' postseason closer, though, posting a 0.84 ERA in nine appearances. The way he pitched in October showed the potential that made him the most sought-after international free agent prior to the 2025 season.
However, the Dodgers have an embarrassment of riches in just about every conceivable way, so they may very well be willing to part with whatever it takes to land Skubal as they try to win their third consecutive World Series.
A few things would have to happen to make this trade possible, though. The Tigers would have to have a rough first half and fall out of playoff contention, which would force their hand in dealing Skubal. Better to get something for him rather than to just let him walk in free agency.
But if there is any sliver of a chance at the postseason, the Tigers would probably retain Skubal. He and newly-signed Framber Valdez comprise arguably the best one-two punch in all of baseball.
If the Dodgers did pull off a trade for Skubal, the uproar would be intense. Everyone is already talking about a potential looming lockout after this season, but if that deal went down, the lockout might start early.
Many are clearly sick of LA's dominance. They signed the top free agent on the market in Kyle Tucker and have a star-studded roster that many feel is unfair.
Adding Skubal to an already loaded starting rotation with the likes of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, and Tyler Glasnow — not to mention Shohei OHtani — would just be an ungodly accumulation of talent.
The Dodgers may be smart to just wait until free agency so they can sign Skubal and not have to part with any assets, but they might just be desperate enough to three-peat that they'll be willing to mortgage some of their future to make their Death Star laser even more powerful.
