Detroit Tigers: Austin and Parker Meadows arrive to spring training together
The two Detroit Tigers brothers arrived in Lakeland as a duo
Having two brothers on the same team isn't that unheard of. The Upton brothers (Melvin and former Tiger Justin) with the Atlanta Braves immediately come to mind. The Detroit Tigers have a pair of brothers who could become teammates this season.
Austin and Parker Meadows technically aren't teammates yet. Parker is stil a minor leaguer, but is on the 40-man roster and was invited to spring training. They both arrived in Lakeland together, with the Detroit Tigers social media team adding a funny caption to capture the moment.
Poor Parker. I sure hope Austin isn't making him carry his stuff, though for all we know Parker could have volunteered to carry all that. It looks like a collection of bats. They could be his or both of theirs. We don't really know. Still, a funny caption to go with this photo.
We know this is Parker's first spring training with the Tigers, but it's Austin's first as well. He spent last spring training with the Tampa Bay Rays before being traded to Detroit just before the start of the regular season. He's already taken some batting practice as well.
Austin is pretty much a shoe-in the make the team as long as he stays healthy. Parker has an outside shot, but it's not very likely. He'd really have to pop off like Akil Baddoo did in 2021. He'll probably begin the year in Triple-A.
Austin has a chance to be the Detroit Tigers' best hitter this season. Last season has made people forget how good he was in Tampa. He was an All-Star in 2019 and hit 27 home runs in 2021. He's a really good hitter. 2022 was an anomaly.
There is a chance that Parker makes his MLB debut this season, where he would play alongside his brother. An outfield of Meadows, Greene, and Meadows is not at all out of the question.
