Detroit Tigers: Riley Greene seeking second opinion for elbow injury
Riley Greene continues to seek further evaluation for his elbow injury with the Detroit Tigers.
Detroit Tigers set to remain without Riley Greene.
The Detroit Tigers may not have much left on the schedule as the month of September gets into the latter half, but they are still working through the remainder of the 2023 season. For the Tigers, they have been without Riley Greene while he tends to an elbow injury.
After making a highlight-reel grab in the outfield, the Detroit Tigers youngster had to come out of the game. It was later announced that Greene had a right elbow injury and would need some time away from the field.
The early diagnosis was not the best. There has been some concern from the Tigers that Greene may miss the remainder of the 2023 season. Given the elbow injury and the severity, he may not be able to suit up for the Tigers once again.
For Greene, it would mean that he finished with a .288/.349/.447 with 19 doubles, four triples, and 11 home runs. He has managed 37 RBI with 35 walks and 114 strikeouts to his credit. If he does not return, he'll end the season with 378 at-bats in his second season in Detroit.
The latest medical updates from the Tigers organization point to Greene seeking further medical evaluations, which seems to indicate a second opinion, or at minimum, further evaluation on his right elbow.
The good news with this is that the Tigers noted that Greene will continue his rehab process and do what he can to get back on the field as quickly as possible. However, the Tigers' 2023 season does not have much left to it anyway.
For Detroit, they will not take any chances with Greene, so ensuring he takes his time on the road to recovery is important. It's the home stretch for Detroit, and while Greene plays a major role for this team, there's no reason to rush him back to the field.
Greene's an integral piece of this team moving forward, and the Tigers will need him in tip-top shape during the 2024 season. While the Tigers may not get the chance to see Greene on the field again, there's bigger fish to fry.
There's no reason to rush him, and Detroit will take their time to ensure that he will return to the field, giving 100% to the Tigers squad. Hopefully, the Tigers' next medical update will bring about some better news with regard to Greene.
