Detroit Tigers: Riley Greene is ready to lift off in 2023
Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene is ready for takeoff in 2023.
The Detroit Tigers' new era of baseball is going to be piloted by Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson. The hope is that Riley Greene can make some leaps in performance in 2023 during his first full season with the Tigers.
Greene came out and made his debut for the Detroit Tigers during the 2022 season, and now he is looking to see an uptick in his performance as he continues to improve in 2023. There's a lot to like about Greene; his tools in the batters' box continue to shine.
In his first go around with the Tigers, Greene appeared in 93 games for Detroit. Greene performed to a .253/.321/.362 with 18 doubles, four triples, and five home runs over 418 plate appearances. He managed 43 RBI and drew 36 walks in 2022.
It was a great debut season for Greene, who did a phenomenal job stepping into the big leagues and finding ways to get things done and start acclimating to the big leagues. He's shined for the Tigers and has become a fan favorite.
The 22-year-old outfielder is slated to be a focal point of the team's offense in 2023, patrolling centerfield and being one of the team's best bats. While some may expect a sophomore slump or his performance to taper off as the "book comes out" on him, I think Greene will be able to adjust.
Sure, he may have a rough patch as opposing pitchers can get his number, but Greene has shown he can make adjustments in the batters' box and can just show a really advanced approach.
I like Greene's odds of bouncing back from any rough patch in his second season and still piecing together some solid numbers by the end. He will be a massive piece of what this Tigers offense entails, and there must be some excitement.
Even with some worries shared amongst Tigers fans about what the 2023 season could be or how bad it could be, Greene's performance will give fans something to look forward to as he continues to find his way in the big leagues.
As one door closes, another one opens. Miguel Cabrera is closing the door on his big league career in 2023, and Greene is opening the door into his big league career in year two. Fans should be excited to watch as Greene really tries to take off and get his game to the next level in 2023.
